Coldstream Guards Association Centenary Garden Party – Saturday 11th May 2013

by andrew.johnson | March 20th, 2013

1.  The centenary of The Coldstream Guards Association will be celebrated with a Regimental Garden Party at Victoria Barracks, Windsor on Saturday 11th May 2013.  Although the final touches of how the day will run have yet to be finalised the following information should be sufficient to allow Branches and their members to make travel and accommodation arrangements.

2.   The aim of the day is twofold:

  1.   To celebrate the Centenary of The Coldstream Guards Association

in an enjoyable and suitable manner.

  1.    To expose Coldstreamers, past and present, to the Association with

the purpose of increasing membership.

3.   The day will run from 1300hrs and end at 1800hrs.  Please note that there will be no entry to Victoria Barracks before 1300hrs.

4.   The Regimental Band will play throughout the afternoon and close proceedings with a short Beating Retreat.

5.   The 2nd Bn Coldstream Guards (1815) – Living History Group will set up a period camp and give a demonstration, with Number 7 Company and the Regimental Band, of a Guard Mount as it would have been in 1815.

6.  There will be a manned display of modern military equipment and a demonstration of close quarter battle drills.

7.  There are plans to hold an inter-branch tournament consisting of competitions in the following disciplines between teams of serving or retired Coldstreamers, the aim being to strengthen bonds between existing and potential branch members. The following events will take place:

(1)        Tug of War.  A knock-out tournament between teams of serving      Coldstreamers on the rope with retired Coldstreamers coaching.

(2)        Dismounted Close Combat Trainer.  This internally housed small arms simulator will host a skill at arms meet for mixed teams of serving and retired Coldstreamers.

(3)        Pace-Sticking. A scored opportunity for retired Coldstreamers to demonstrate their prowess with serving Coldstreamers coaching.

8.   Prizes will be awarded for individual events as well as an overall prize. In order to address differences in branch size a handicapping system will be employed although it is probable that some branch teams will have to be amalgamated on the day.

9.   A BBQ and subsidised alcoholic refreshments will be available from 1300-1430hrs. Competitions and demonstrations will take place between 1400 -1600hrs.  Tea (Canapés, sandwiches, tea, coffee and soft drinks) will be served 1600-1715hrs.

10.    At 1800hrs the Regimental Sergeant Major has agreed to open his Mess to Association members.  Those not wishing to use this facility are asked to leave Barracks no later than 1800hrs.

11.   Victoria Barracks can hold a maximum of 2000 people and therefore admission will be by ticket only in order to control numbers.  Tickets are free for all Coldstreamers, serving or retired, as well as a single guest.  Additional tickets are available for purchase at £10 per head for adults or £5 for children. Each adult ticket will come with a badge identifying the holder’s branch to be worn on the day. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS  AN EVENT FOR COLDSTREAMERS AND THEIR FAMILIES ONLY.

12.   To apply for tickets please complete the attached proforma and return it to me BY NO LATER THAN 24TH APRIL. Regimental Headquarters will despatch tickets to Branch Secretaries and we are prepared to send tickets/permits direct to individuals so long as a stamped addressed A4 envelope is sent with the branch return.

13.   Parking for cars and coaches will be available in Windsor. The details have yet to be worked out but for planning purposes we will need to know car details (registration numbers, make and colour) or name of coach firm and registration number for those arriving by coach.  Parking arrangements will be issued with tickets/parking permits.

14.   Transport to London on the Saturday evening will leave Victoria Barracks at 2100hrs.  Branch Secretaries are asked to submit a consolidated number of their members (and partners) requiring seats on this transport.

15. Transport for any Branch Secretary staying overnight in Windsor will leave Victoria Barracks for Wellington Barracks at 0830hrs on Sunday 12th May. Branch Secretaries are asked to let me know if they require a seat on this transport.
